Jamie Lawrence

Painting, music, and fashion — made into rooms of light.

Jamie Lawrence is a contemporary abstract painter in Laguna Beach. A degree in fine art. Twenty years of original work, one of one — music, fashion design, and painting held in the same hand.

Laguna is home. A private gallery. The paintings have hung on the mezzanine at Zensai Beverly Hills. Her first large oil — an angel — lives with a collector in New York. The rest of the work lives quietly with collectors across the country and abroad.

She was raised in Minnesota, with Swedish roots, and a family line that includes the actress Ann Southern and the philosopher Bruno Latour. That inheritance is a way of seeing: beauty, thought, and a life lived in public rooms.

In 2013 she opened her first gallery in the Arts District of Los Angeles. Evenings of painting, music, fashion, and television. Collectors came — some of them known — and stayed with the work. It was a room in which she felt at home, and in which people could be met spiritually, and reminded to use the gift they were given.

The paintings are oil, acrylic, gold leaf, and mixed mediums; palette knife and brush. Abstract, meditational. She lets the moment of creation come from within, and remains in the present. Faith is the center. Each canvas is named with scripture, so a house might hold both beauty and the Word. She writes inspirational books. She wants the work to lift those who live with it — and to say, still, that they are wonderfully made.

She is a realtor as well, and stages million-dollar residences with original paintings. The public years are quieter now. Viewings are by appointment, in Laguna Beach — or she comes to you.

“I am present in this moment to create.”

One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after: to behold the beauty of the Lord.
